Basic Homemade Potting Soil for Flower Plants

Basic Homemade Potting Soil for Flower Plants:

Ingredients:

2 parts garden soil or topsoil

1 part compost (well-rotted, organic)

1 part sand OR perlite (for drainage)

A handful of coco peat or peat moss (for moisture retention)

Optional Boosters:

A little bone meal (for strong roots)

Vermicompost or organic fertilizer (for slow nutrient release)

How to Prepare:

1. Sterilize the garden soil if needed (bake in oven at 180°F for 30 minutes) to kill pests and weed seeds.

2. Mix all ingredients thoroughly in a large container or on a clean surface.

3. Moisten the mix lightly — not soaking wet, just damp.

4. Fill your pots or garden beds with this rich, airy soil.

Tips for Flower Plants:

Sun-loving flowers (like marigold, zinnia) love slightly sandy, well-drained soil.

Shade flowers (like impatiens, ferns) like soil that's rich and stays moist longer.

Always add mulch (dry leaves, straw) on top to keep soil cool and moist.
